That is not true, I don't remember when, but there was a black marathon runner and he was real funny. Kramer is a racist but that's his problem, black people shouldn't even care.

I told myself not to comment further on this, but I simply refused bad information not to be buttress with Truth!!

Please read the Preamble to the Constitution. If you believe in it so much why were your ancestors left out of it, though reading it would make them naturalized citizens at that time? // Then again, maybe yours were not born here, I wouldn’t know….*Sigh*….if they were and you are an end result?....*sheesh*

ALWAYS remember, when trying to use historical facts, make sure not to use a Euro-centric perspective, ONLY! As previously stated, you and I can go back and forth because of one’s ignorance to Opportunity of Equality.

To minimize the methodical, historical details of why the VRA is needed in the first place is complete blindness of the RACISM portray in American History.

Amendment 13, Amendment 14, Amendment 15 & the infamous Emancipation Proclamation, still did not bring the Black man on Equal footing with his oppressors. If you prefer to turn your back on these historical facts, so be it!

WHY is it so HARD for BLACK PEOPLE to view BLACKS in the highest positions of power without saying ENOUGH ALREADY? Even if we fail at the position, why do you seem to keep saying ENOUGH ALREADY?

WHY in the HELL do I need to go watch Richard Pryor, Live on Sunset Strip? Obviously I have seen it!!...What is with you!?

It looks like the naye votes in the house were because they felt the act was not being equally appllied to all states.

The link above is an explanation from Norwood. Here's some of it:
*************
Proposed Updates to the VRA
As it stands, Georgia remains judged under the voting results of the 1964 Presidential race between Lyndon Johnson and Barry Goldwater. Any state with less than 50% voter turnout in the 1964 Presidential election, and which had previously enacted laws that discriminated against minority voters, was automatically placed under Section 5.

We should update VRA to judge states on 2004, rather than 1964 election results. As an alternative, we could consider the last three Presidential elections.

We should allow all areas currently listed under VRA Section 4 to appeal for bailout at the local federal district court level, rather than just in Washington, DC.

We should create mechanisms to add states that discriminate to the Section 4 oversight list.

We should lower the time limit for a clean-record bailout from ten years to five.

A blanket renewal of the current Voting Rights Act without change will unlawfully discriminate against the voting rights of every citizen of every race of the State of Georgia, based solely on where they live, in direct violation of the U.S. Constitution.
************

Kind of ironic...

This is something that should be followed up on and I wll try to find out more.

Devil's advocate....I brought up those points for the sake of argument and to illustrate how absurd it is to scream compensation at the drop of a hat. I would not pay him or them.

I do not view any one with disdain. I can empathize with the plight of every individual - no matter what race. Can you? Or do you think, "good they deserve the what they get". I see injustice and despair and it sickens me. I see those in a higher station than me and have respect for them because, in most instances, they have worked hard to get where they are in life. (Except most politicains - LOL). I see those with less than me and think how strong they must be to endure the trials and tribulations they do. I am not envious or angry because I understand that everyone suffers in their own ways and that suffering can be just as strong for them as race is. To feel good at another's suffering lessens us as humans.

It's very hard to put into words because they can be twisted to suit one's purposes. Again, just watch Richard Pryor in Live on Sunset Strip. He makes the point beautifully. Our point is not different, we feel the same disgust. It's just ridiculous to scream compensation every time someone gets offended.

Again, Michael Richards is a total dumbass.....Understand that is my stance. What he did was unequivocally wrong.

The anger and hate must stop from within. And believe me I have taken my lumps for standing by my brothers.

Enough Already is a reference to the use of the word by our own race. I hear it 1000 times more out of the mouths of black men than I ever do out of white people.

As to the Voting Rights Act. Your facts are not correct. It is a false argument meant to inflame. Try to think of who benefits from the anger? Do you really think anyone would vote against the extension of Section 5 as needed? Now that would be big news!!! If someone has voted against it in the last 25 years, I would like to know.

Section 5 automatically kicks in if someone tries to circumvent the provisions of the Voter Rights Act. It looks like it causes a DOJ review if any changes are made to voting procedures.

Here is what the Department of Justice has to say about it on their site:

*******************

U.S. Department of Justice
Civil Rights Division
Voting Section
Voting Rights Act Clarification
The Department of Justice has received numerous inquiries concerning a rumor that has been intermittently circulating around the nation for many months. According to this rumor, the Voting Rights Act will expire in 2007, and as a result African Americans are in danger of losing the right to vote in that year.

The rumor is false. The voting rights of African Americans are guaranteed by the United States Constitution and the Voting Rights Act, and those guarantees are permanent and do not expire.

Here is a summary of relevant provisions of the Voting Rights Act:

The 15th amendment to the Constitution and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 prohibit racial discrimination in voting. Under the 15th amendment and the Voting Rights Act no one may be denied the right to vote because of his or her race or color.

These prohibitions against racial discrimination in voting are permanent; they do not expire.

The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was enacted at a time when for decades in some areas of the South blacks had not been permitted to vote, and blacks who attempted to register to vote or to organize or assist others to attempt to register to vote risked losing their jobs, their homes, even their lives.

To combat this situation Congress included in the Voting Rights Act -- in addition to permanent provisions banning racial discrimination -- special provisions containing extraordinary remedies that applied in certain areas of the nation for a limited time period.

Among these extraordinary remedies are--

the authorization of the U.S. Attorney General to send federal registrars (examiners) to register voters, in counties where the local registrar refuses to register blacks. [Section 6, 42 U.S.C. § 1973d]

the authorization of the U.S. Attorney General to send federal observers to monitor elections, to make sure that blacks who are eligible to vote are actually permitted to vote, and that their votes are actually counted. [Section 8, 42 U.S.C. § 1973f]

the requirement that specially covered jurisdictions gain the approval of the U.S. Attorney General before implementing new voting practices or procedures, to make sure that any voting changes that they make are not racially discriminatory. [Section 5, 42 U.S.C. § 1973c]

These special provisions containing extraordinary remedies were intended to be of limited duration. They were originally scheduled to expire in 1970, but they were extended in 1970, and again in 1975 and 1982. They are now scheduled to expire in 2007, if not further extended.

Even if the special provisions are allowed to expire, they can be reinstated by court order if there is a renewal of discriminatory practices.

The basic prohibition against discrimination in voting contained in the 15th amendment and in the Voting Rights Act does not expire in 2007 -- it does not expire at all; it is permanent.

**************
End of DOJ text.

I have no intention of silencing anyone... I don't understand where that comes from?

To paraphrase Voltaire..... I may not agree with what someone says, but I will defend their right to the death to say it.

Again, peace and love and mutual respect.........

Hey Enough Already...

whatever your nationality, it is quite apparent you don't stand in the corner of the Black men who were attacked.

You and I can go back and forth over this ONE issue constantly because of our different perspectives on it.

My angst of problems are when people such as yourself and others view people of African descent with disdain. But try to cover it up with superfluous words.

It would be nice if a Black Man could be silent, BUT NOT while RACISM exists, and others placate it boldness.

Answer these QUESTION for me: Why is there a Voting Rights Act Bill? And why does it have to be re-sign every so many decades? Do white people have to be concerned about a SIMPLE BASIC RIGHT, such as VOTING?

When truth is spoken, it never ceases to amaze, that people want to silence a person.

Take the truth, digest it, meditate on it, allow for rumination constantly, and maybe then and only then will it be ENOUGH ALREADY!!
