WELCOME

This blog is about fatherhood. Black fatherhood to be exact. But it's also about how no matter our race, gender, political affiliation (or whatever it is that can potentially separate us), good parents are all connected through parenthood. Our shared experiences are what bind us, not to mention our love of a good story.

DEV & I STILL TALK, BUT THE TOPICS SURE HAVE CHANGED!

Dev and Dad conversing (um, if we were fish). I'm the wise looking one.

Dev and Dad conversing (um, if we were fish). I'm the wise looking one.

Yesterday I was sitting in the kitchen with my laptop, my wife was at the stove cookin’ up some Cajun shrimp and Dev was hanging around. Well, he was closer than I thought…

“Daddy, who’s Jennifer?” He was looking over my shoulder as I checked the Facebook folder in my email. Jennifer was part of a thread that had been updated. Not surprisingly I knew her from back in the day. My wife was listening intently while trying to look casual and uninterested.

“Oh, she’s a woman that I went to High School with who’s on Facebook.”

“Did you date her in high school?”

“No, Dev I didn’t date her. We were just friends. I didn’t even know she was on FB.”

“So you dated her when you were in high school? Who else did you date in high school?”

“I said I didn’t date her! In fact I knew her in junior high school too. I guess we go way back.” Why did I say that? No, really, why?

“You dated Jennifer in junior high school too?”

“No, I never dated her at all!” By this point I couldn’t help but wonder why he was doing this to me.

“Oh. Who else did you date in high school and junior high school?”

“I didn’t… Well there was… never mind. Go play in your room.”

My wife was cracking up, I was sweating and laughing and wondering what the heck he knew about dating in the first place. Facebook certainly opens up all kinds of awkward dialogues now doesn’t it? So glad I signed up.

This cracked me up…in a “been there, done that” kinda way. Thanks for the laugh!
